Community

BSL is committed to building enduring relationships with our community based on mutual respect, active partnership and long-term commitment.

Our aim is to be a valued community member and to contribute to the enduring sustainability of the region. We meet this aim through a number of ongoing community partnerships and sponsorships.

A few of our main partnerships are:

EBITS Centre

The EBITS Centre is a partnership between Education Queensland and Boyne Smelters Limited, with additional funding and support from EQUIP Gladstone. The program, which celebrates 10 years in 2015, enables students in Years 11 and 12 who are participating in business, business communication and information technology courses to complete part of their studies working in an office environment at BSL. Students are also given work experience tasks within the plant, while BSL employees from various roles often provide discussions and mentoring opportunities for EBITS students.

Turtleway Artscape project

BSL is a partner in the Turtleway Artscape project, which aims to enhance the current Turtleway park and path with sculptures and artwork that depicts our local area, including its flora, fauna and people, and engaging the wider community through art. A kangaroo sculpture adjacent to BSL’s training facility (Kalori) was the first of 21 artworks planned to be installed over 10 years.

Building School Legacies

BSL is proud to be a partner with the schools within the local Boyne Island and Tannum Sands area.  The Building Schools Legacies school grants program provides support to assist with projects or infrastructure that provide lasting benefits to the school and wider community.

Tannum Sands Surf Lifesaving Club

BSL has a long standing partnership with our local beach safety provider, the Tannum Sands Surf Lifesaving Club.  The partnership allows the club to provide a continual beach patrol service to the Gladstone region’s local beach at Tannum Sands. The partnership allows the non-proft group to provide exceptional training for their volunteers and access quality life saving equipment for beach patrols.

BSL also has partnerships with the Beach. Arts. Music. (BAM) event, Tannum Sands High School’s Zenith program and supports a variety of community events and programs each year.
