BSL supports volunteer fire fighting services

October 22, 2013

This week Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL) provided a welcome contribution to local non-profit volunteer fire services, the Boyne Island Auxiliary Fire Brigade (BIAFB) and Tannum Sands Rural Fire Brigade (TSRFB).

BSL donated $4,000 to each service to assist with the cost of operating their fire control services as we approach their busiest time of the year.

BSL General Manager, Joe Rea said it was really satisfying to know that we have such professional and efficient services safeguarding the community.

“The devastating fires in New South Wales highlight the critical role volunteer fire services play here and right across Australia,” Mr Rea said.

“Each year we have the opportunity to work in partnership with the Boyne and Tannum volunteer fire services to safely back-burn selected areas of BSL’s managed bush land in Boyne Island residential areas.

“It is a pleasure for us to provide a small contribution in appreciation of their volunteer services in assisting the Boyne Tannum community to manage uncontrolled fires. They are to be congratulated on their commitment to doing this tough work, often alongside full-time jobs, so they can ensure the safety of local property and community members,” Mr Rea said.

Boyne Island Auxiliary Fire Brigade and Tannum Sands Rural Fire Brigade are volunteer based not-for-profit organisations which provide training of volunteer members, community education in relation to fire affairs, emergency planning and generally taking measures for the prevention of loss of life and property from fires.
