BSL and its employees support local RSPCA
Christmas has come early for the Gladstone Friends of the RSPCA, thanks to a welcome donation from Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL).
Over the last fortnight, BSL’s Mechanical Workshop team took it upon themselves to collect pet food and bedding within their team to help the Gladstone RSPCA foster and rehome as many animals as possible leading up to the busy Christmas period.
The team decided to extend their donation drive to all BSL employees and arranged collection bins at the site entrance gate seeking pet food, bedding, kitty litter and other necessities the local RSPCA need.
BSL Operations Manager Kevin Taylor was so pleased with the initiative of the Mechanical Workshop team and BSL’s employees, that BSL also pledged a donation.
“It’s pleasing to see our employees band together on their own merit to support a local non-profit organisation. On the back of this, BSL’s Community Investment Fund will donate $1000 to further benefit our local RSPCA,” Kevin said.
Friends of the RSPCA President, Judy Whicker, was thrilled with the generosity of BSL’s employee contributions and the company’s donation.
“Christmas is our busiest period as it is kitten season, which we currently have 142 of needing homes, as well as the sad fact that many pets are abandoned when people go away for the holidays,” Judy said.
“The Friends of the RSPCA supplies foster carers with everything they need to look after animals while they are rehomed, so naturally the food, kitty litter, bedding and vet bills all come at a huge cost to us.”
“We don’t have any fundraising activities planned for two months so this donation from BSL and its employees is going to really benefit us and the animals we are saving from being euthanised.”
The local Friends of the RSPCA is desperately seeking people who may be able to foster animals until they are rehomed. Cats, dogs, kittens and puppies come to foster carers vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped and desexed (age dependent) and all food, vet bills etc is funded by the Friends of the RSPCA. If you’re interested in becoming a foster carer, please call 0439 709 369 (for dogs) or 4978 6666 (for cats).
